Nike and Outkast Made a Varsity Jacket and I Need It

The Nike x Outkast collection is straight fire. Yes, that’s right. Nike just dropped an exclusive collab with one of the greatest rap groups of all time, Outkast.

The collection is a collaborative project with Class Trip to celebrate the first-ever Georgia vs. Florida football game played in Atlanta.

What’s in the Nike x Outkast Collection?

This capsule includes an entire line of apparel created through the lens of André 3000 and Big Boi, pulled from their style throughout the years.

There’s a varsity jacket, football jerseys, a satin bomber, a heavyweight fleece hoodie and a fly rugby I need to get my hands on. There are also Max90 graphic tees and headwear.

The Hoodie also catches my eye as it features a drawn version of Outkast. Flames.

When and Where to Buy the Outkast Collection

You can get the Outkast U collection starting October 27 on the SNKRS app, at Class Trip and at Nike retail partners in the A. Then everything will be available on October 28 via Nike.com.

And if you’re heading to the stadium on Halloween, there will be a pop-up on game day as well.

Why This Outkast Collab Hits Different

I’ve been a fan of Outkast since they partnered with Diddy to record “Player’s Ball,” the true best Christmas track ever made. Sorry, Mariah. Player’s Ball was produced by Organizes Noize but Diddy directed the video. That association put them on my radar. Granted this was before we realized how much of a Bad Boy, Puffy was.

This capsule is birthed from that energy. The same energy that had them on The Source Awards stage declaring “The South got something to say.”

“This started over lunch with André,” says Brian Francis, founder of Class Trip. “He was telling stories about driving up to Athens to watch the Dawgs. Then we saw Georgia vs Florida was headed to Atlanta for the first time ever. Georgia’s football and its music, together in the city that made Outkast. They put Atlanta on the map. This is our thank you.”

I love that.

I had the opportunity to meet Three Stacks and Big Boi, and the vibes were cool. The personality was everything you’d expect from a celebrity encounter. They say don’t meet your heroes but Andre grabbed my phone and snapped the selfie. Couldn’t have bene nicer.

The Georgia Bulldogs Campaign Recreates Classic Outkast Photos

Now let’s talk about the campaign for the Outkast collab. It was shot over the summer in Athens with cornerback Ellis Robinson IV, safety KJ Bolden, linebacker Chris Cole, tight ends Kaiden Prothro and Elyiss Williams, and wide receiver Talyn Taylor.

If you’re a true fan, you’ll realize they recreated frames from Outkast’s photo history.

“We wanted to create something as timeless as their music,” says Jon Tietz, Creative Director, Class Trip. “Think of the Roses video. André and Big Boi, two crews, two completely different styles, same school. The yin and the yang. Every piece had to feel like it walked right out of that hallway.”

Now that’s dope! You can see the inspiration from Roses by looking at the image with KJ Bolden who’s fit is like a more street version of Andre’s look in the hit music video. Replace the Cardigan for a Varsity Jacket. This is the type of collabs I love. Not a rip of but an inspiration. Perfect.

The Nike x Outkast collection definitely taps into both of their styles. From Andre’s early days to Big Boi’s more street choices. It’s a great representation of Outkast at it’s core. The items are available for purchase now on the SNKRS app and Nike.com on 10/28
